As promised! My blog: The New York Edition! I bet you're so excited you can hardly stand it. I wouldn't blame you. New York City is pretty spectacular.
We left the house (on Saturday morning) here in New Hampshire around 6:45am, and by the time we made it to New York, and picked up friends (real ones, with whom we had plans to grab lunch) along the way, we were probably in the city by roughly 11:30. Not too shabby!
We drive past the half price theatre ticket booth, and saw that very few things were left on special, but we had printed off a few Playbill member coupons before we left. So... we went to the Saint James theatre (on 44th between 8th and Broadway) to see if we could get tickets to the 2:00 matinee performance of 'Leap of Faith,' which we did! And they were amazing seats! Front and center about 6 or 7 rows back... very close to the action, but not to close that you had to break your neck looking up the entire time.
I don't want to go into too much detail about the show so as not to spoil it if you decide to go see it. I will say, however, that the scenery, etc, was rather simple, but pretty effective. Not a huge cast, but a cast filled with some pretty major, powerful voices, and there were some fun dance routines in the show. The show is in previews right now, so, unfortunately, you can't get your hands on an Original Cast Recording (also known as a "soundtrack" to many).
Once we got out of the show, we walked to the library, which I had never been to. It was stunning! From there, we walked to Grand Central (another first for me), which was also a lovely sight to behold. We got a train, and met the rest of our group out in the burbs, where our friends made dinner for us, and we all sat around the kitchen table eating, laughing, and catching up. It was lovely. Then... it was back on the road for the four hour ride home!
I'd say we are all pretty tired, but it was very much worth it! A few photo highlights to give you an idea of the day's sights. I hope you enjoy.
