Okay, so cheeky subject titles aren't my forte.
R.E.M. announced to day that they are all walking away and throwing in the towel. This is the end of the band that played a lead role in the formative years of musical growth. I remember listening to cassettes with my older brother, and thinking this band was pretty damn rad. And in fact, I likely used the term "rad" as well.
I remember going to see R.E.M. (at what was then) GreatWoods back in New England. Luscious Jackson opened. It was... the summer for me between 5th and 6th grades (?) and my brother was getting ready to head off to college. My parents bought us the tickets after a great deal of begging on our part, citing that it would be a great bonding experience for the two of us before we lost my brother to the land of higher education. It was a great show. Lawn seats. High energy.
I grew up listening to them, and this certainly marks the end of an era in my book.
